Restring Your Childrens Guitars for Kids

For a beginner, this might seem intimidating. With the right tools, a little expertise and some practice, you will be in a position to restring an guitar like an expert.

OK, so you’ve decided you don’t want to pay the guy at the music shop to do something that you have to learn anyway. You need a new set of strings, a set of wire cutters, a winder and a tuner. It takes about an hour to do this correctly, but with, with practice you will be able to restring your electric guitar in about 20-30 minutes.

Start with the low E string, just my preference but it doesn’t really matter. Use your string winder and loosen the string until there is sufficient slack that you can unwind the string from the tuning post by hand and then use your wire cutters to cut off the end of the string and discard. Do this to lessen the possibility of scratching the finish of your guitar and cutting your hand. This can hurt!. Push/pull the string back through the bridge slowly, making certain that it does not drag across the finish. You don’t want to scratch your guitar finish.

Next, unwrap the new string. Insert it through the bridge of the guitar, over the saddle, up the neck, and across the nut and into the hole in the tuning post. Once again make certain the trailing end of the string does not drag across the guitar physique.

Start turning the tuner by hand and the string will wrap around the tuning post. Ideally you want to have 3-four wraps of the string close to the tuner. Turn the tuner till the slack is out and the string is effectively seated in the nut.Next clip the excess string off close to the tuner and use your string winder to add tension to the string.

Use your digital tuner and tune to pitch.

Grab the string with your hand halfway between the bridge and the nut and tug the string away from the fretboard. I try to raise it about an inch or so above the fretboard.Tune to pitch and repeat the stretching approach until the string stays in tune.

Now repeat the remaining five strings. When you have replaced and stretched the final string retune all the strings, the tuning can drift as the strings are changed.

Now you can play and have fun!
